GoR through its 2020 Strategic Vision highlighted that, for Rwanda to prosper, the Private Sector shall play a major role in driving forward the economic, productivity and fight against poverty. It is within the same spirit that thirty three prominent Rwandan Entrepreneurs and Seven Institutional Investors reached the agreement in May 2006 to incorporate Rwanda Investment Group S.A.

RIG’s primarily purpose was to mobilize resources, from both domestic and foreign sources and invest in high-impact profitable development projects. RIG equally is expected to play a major role in serving as a successful business model especially for the Rwandese and along the way foster a business culture of pooling resources together to undertake bigger projects.

RIG is an investment holding company established in 2006 for the purposes of investing in profitable projects exhibiting a high impact upon Rwanda’s development. Its minimum investment value is US$ 3.6 million. RIG’s vision is to take part in Rwandan development and poverty eradication through wealth creation. A total of 41 shareholders, comprising of 6 institutional investors, 4 mid-sized private companies, and 31 individuals, mainly Rwandese entrepreneurs contributed US$ 25.1 mln start up capital to capitalise an investment
